Our beloved Mario Kart fans have something incredible to celebrate this December. Mario Kart World has claimed the prestigious Best Sports/Racing Game trophy at The Game Awards 2025, and honestly, we couldn’t be happier about this news!
The announcement came during The Game Awards ceremony on 11th December 2025, where Mario Kart World triumphed over some seriously tough competition. The Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive title faced off against Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, EA Sports FC 26, F1 25, and Rematch. It was quite the battle, especially with Sonic Racing CrossWorlds being such a strong contender this year.
What makes this win even more special? This marks the second time the Mario Kart franchise has won this category. Mario Kart 8 took home the same award back in 2014 at the very first Game Awards. Our Mario Kart fans have been loyal to this series for decades, and it shows!
What Makes Mario Kart World Stand Out
Released in June 2025, Mario Kart World brought something completely new to the table. The game introduced a free roam mode that lets players explore an open world, complete missions, and jump into races whenever they fancy. There’s also the exciting Knockout Tour battle royal mode that adds a fresh twist to the classic formula.
