Attention fans! Nintendo released an update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, bringing the game to version 3.0.3. This latest patch comes after a period of quiet, offering some behind-the-scenes improvements that our beloved Mario Kart community will surely appreciate. At first glance, the official patch notes from Nintendo appear rather sparse. They simply state that “issues have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience”. However, there’s more to this update than meets the eye, and we’re here to break it down for our beloved Mario Kart fans. The update, released on 11 September 2024, sees the game leap from version 3.0.1 to 3.0.3. While Nintendo’s official statement remains vague, dataminer ‘OatmealDome’ has uncovered some intriguing details about what’s really going on under the bonnet. According to OatmealDome, this update primarily addresses a security flaw in the game’s netcode. They report that only a few lines of code were modified, seemingly to fix a buffer overflow issue. It’s worth noting that this update doesn’t introduce any changes to graphics, sounds, or game balance. While it may not be the content-packed update some of our beloved Mario Kart fans were hoping for, it’s reassuring to see Nintendo continuing to support and secure the game. These behind-the-scenes fixes are crucial for maintaining a smooth and safe online experience for players.

Our race then takes a sharp turn into the beating heart of Spain with Tour Madrid Drive, winding through a cityscape brimming with passion, while the tumultuous terrain of GCN DK Mountain challenges our prowess against gravity’s pull. Both tracks have been revitalized in stunning HD, yet they retain every bit of the spirit that once made our pulses race. The surge of nostalgia accelerates as we coast into the familiar bends of Wii Daisy Circuit and the formidable walls of SNES Bowser Castle 3—tracks so iconic they resonate deep within the Mario Kart soul. And just when you feel the rush of past glories, Piranha Plant Cove and Tour Rome Avanti emerge with their devious turns and breathtaking views, demanding precision and rewarding the daring with the taste of sweet victory. As the chill of anticipation sets in, it’s none other than the 3DS Rosalina’s Ice World that slides us toward the finish line. If you’re a Nintendo fan, then chances are you were tuned into the Nintendo Direct that took place a few days ago. One of the most anticipated games that people thought Nintendo would unveil was the new Mario Kart 9. Since this blog will be looking at Mario Kart exclusively, that’s what we’ll be discussing today! While many speculated that this Direct would announce a new Mario Kart 9 video game, Nintendo had other plans. According to the Direct and what seems like Nintendo’s new strategy to promote its Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership and game DLC, we’re getting as many as 48 new tracks in Mario Kart 8 rather than a new Mario Kart 9. We know so far that these new tracks will be released in waves of 8 tracks and will be dropped now and then from March 2022 till the end of 2023. Could this possibly receive as much hype as the Smash Bros Ultimate DLC used to each time a new character was supposed to be released? Only time will tell. We also know that players and fans will have an option to either buy these for $24.99 or for free if they have a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. The people spending $24.99 on it will have access to all the waves that release, which will be a one-time cost. If you’re curious about which eight courses will make up the first wave, we have the exclusive loot for you all to feast your eyes on! You can look forward to these courses from the previous Mario games and history, available on March 18th, 2022: Golden Dash Cup Paris Promenade (Mario Kart Tour) Toad Circuit (Mario Kart 7) Choco Mountain (Mario Kart 64) Coconut Hall (Mario Kart Wii) Lucky Cat Cup Tokyo Blur (Mario Kart Tour) Shroom Ridge (Mario Kart DS) Sky Garden (Mario Kart Super Circuit) Ninja Hideaway (Mario Kart Tour) Are you excited for this DLC drop? Or would you rather have had Mario Kart 9? We’d love to know!
