Good news has arrived for our beloved Mario Kart fan! A fresh, free Mario Kart World update has rolled out on Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s bringing two brand-new routes to Knockout Tour, along with a delightful little addition to Photo Mode. If you’ve been itching for something new to race through, this update delivers exactly that.
New Routes Join Knockout Tour
Knockout Tour has always been one of the more nerve-wracking modes in Mario Kart World. Twenty-four racers start the tour, and only the quickest survive each of the five checkpoints along the way, fall behind, and you’re eliminated on the spot. With this update, two new routes have joined the roster: Drill Rally, which links Wario Shipyard through to Bowser’s Castle, and Boomerang Rally, which winds its way from Salty Salty Speedway to Whistlestop Summit.

Both routes only unlock once a Mario Kart fan has completed at least one existing Knockout Tour rally, so there’s a small bit of racing to do before these become selectable. Nintendo has also hinted that further routes are on the way in future updates, so this likely won’t be the last expansion Knockout Tour sees.
Stickers Bring Extra Charm to Photo Mode

Alongside the racing additions, this Mario Kart World update also introduces stickers to Photo Mode. Any stickers a player has collected can now be placed directly onto in-game snapshots, adding a playful, personal touch to those in-race screenshots. It’s a small feature, but one that’s sure to please anyone who enjoys capturing memorable moments mid-race.
Between the two new Knockout Tour routes and this charming Photo Mode upgrade, there’s plenty for our beloved Mario Kart fan to explore. Time to jump back in and see how far Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally can take you!
