lakitu7

We’ve been talking a lot about how the Nintendo Switch Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has gotten a new lease on life by the added DLC drop announced in the Nintendo Direct that took place back in February. The first eight tracks dropped on 18th March and there have been many additions to the classic game via this update. New cup names have dropped, which include: Turnip Cup, Propeller Cup, Rock Cup, Moon Cup, Fruit Cup, Boomerang Cup, Feather Cup, Cherry Cup, Acorn Cup, Spiny Cup. The latest track drops include fan favorites like Choco Mountain and Coconut Mall from previous Mario Kart games. As fans slowly accept, play, and dissect the new tracks, mixed reviews have popped up on social media regarding the update. Some fans appreciate the newness and extension that the game has gotten, while others have said that the newer tracks could have been better graphically. From what we’ve seen of fan footage and images on social media, the game looks polished and plays well. We think that this expansion, that’s said to last till 2023 will definitely add many new players to the fan base and ultimately satisfy existing fans too, because no matter what the tracks look like, Mario Kart has become relevant again, with influencers playing the new tracks on twitch, it’s bound to trickle down and involve many players around the world. Have you tried the expansion pack? What do you think of the new track drop?

Thoughts on Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit

bowserjr4

We’ve been discussing all things Nintendo and Mario Kart on this blog for a while now, but one Mario Kart game that we haven’t spoken about at all is the live home circuit edition. This game has been controversial since its release in 2020, with many fans claiming that it’s not good enough to be counted as a Mario Kart game. It is a franchise that has always lived up to its game and provided on all the expectations that fans hold for it every time a new one is announced. Mario Kart Live Circuit, on the other hand, has been constantly reviewed as a ‘broken children’s toy’ with it not being anywhere near as good as the $100 market price that it dropped with or the $60 price that it is now on sale at. However, some fans felt that it was a pleasant surprise and was worth the price to see Mario Kart being played live in your home. Moreover, some even pointed out that because it was, after all, a children’s toy, it should be judged by what the target audience thinks it to be, and the target market has been happy with the product. Since they don’t know its limitations and faults, children have loved to play with it. Does that make it a hit? We’re on the fence about this particular Mario Kart game. Our loyalties lie with the franchise, and it isn’t as good as all the other Mario Kart games, maybe the VR and AR technologies of our time let it down, and maybe in a few years, this is what gaming will be like. If you think of it that way, Nintendo might be on to something by laying a foundation for the future, but time will tell. Have you played the Mario Kart Live Home Circuit? What are your thoughts on it?

What Mario Kart Means to Nintendo

Whether we’re talking about home consoles with motion controllers or handheld platforms with significant “Pokémon” titles, the “Mario Kart” series is an incredible powerhouse that dominates sales across Nintendo consoles. With the release of the Nintendo Switch, the company’s power has only grown. As the iconic character for Nintendo, Mario’s instantly recognizable colors and animation has meant that it’s as popular as Mickey Mouse is for Disney. With a major motion picture releasing soon, with a star-studded cast, Mario’s popularity and success will be unparalleled for the company. Having said that, what is it about Mario Kart that always ensures that sales skyrocket, no matter what the platform? Since the 90s, every major Nintendo hardware has been complemented with a version of a Mario Kart game. Kids who’ve grown up on the Wii version games are now adults playing Mario Odyssey or Mario Kart on their switch. Whether it is difficult-to-beat game mechanics, stunning graphics, unique racing tracks, or even the soundtrack that accompanies the races, everything about the game is widely loved and heatedly debated. Moreover, every Nintendo fan is bound to have the game, even though it costs over $60 apiece, which many consider steep. The game is an all-time fan favorite and has sold a whopping 43.35 million copies for the Nintendo Switch as of December 31, 2021. With the expansion pack dropping soon, it’s bound to pick up some more loyal fans along the way.

Would a New Mario Kart Have Been Better Than the Expansion Pack?

yoshi8

As the days roll by and we finally come into March, we wait impatiently for the expansion pack to release for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, as announced in the latest Nintendo Direct held on the 9th of February 2022. Even though we have covered the Nintendo Direct in detail (You can read it here if you want), fans of the game were surprised that a new Mario Kart wasn’t announced instead. Some were happy to see 8 Deluxe remain and added on to however, most were a tad bit disappointed that Nintendo didn’t inject new life into the franchise by announcing a new game. The expansion comes on Nintendo’s online service called the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion pack and can be played on it for free if you have paid for the subscription that came out last year. Fans have debated all these technicalities since the news broke out, but our question is, wouldn’t it have been better if a new game had come out? Or is the expansion a great way to expand the life of one of the most famous Nintendo Switch games right now? A game that has sold 43.35 million copies till date. Could the company be waiting to drop the new Mario Kart edition only when it upgrades the Nintendo Switch hardware? Or is it just a way to increase the number of subscriptions to their online service, which hasn’t been the best? Either way, it leaves us wondering what the future of Mario Kart and the Nintendo Switch looks like considering the 48-track DLC drop has been confirmed to last till 2023. Will the Switch also not get an update till then? Seems unlikely. What are your thoughts on this? Do you prefer the expansion pack and Nintendo’s online service, or would you rather have had a new Mario Kart game?

The Beginning of Mario Kart

inkling9

Mario is one of the most recognizable Nintendo characters of all time. Maybe, a toss-up between Mario and Pokémon, in my opinion, for the most famous gaming franchise from the Japanese gaming tycoons. Being so famous and having global appeal has meant that we’ve been blessed with many Mario content: games, merchandise, and now even an upcoming movie! While we wait for that to come out, we can still reminisce about the good ol’ days when the original Super Mario Kart came out. It truly is a game that stands out whenever all Mario games are discussed. The popularity of the game can never be overstated and is unmatched. Even though all Mario fans have loved every version of the racing game that has graced our screens, handheld and on TV, the first one was genuinely iconic and still holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers, retro and new. Super Mario Kart started a beautiful era that spurned many a remake. The original Mario Kart game, Super Mario Kart, was published in 1992 for the SNES. Other than Mario Kart Tour, it is the only game in which Donkey Kong Jr. is a playable character, yet it is the only game in which Donkey Kong and Wario (not yet developed) do not appear. The pixelated graphics and the simple sounds really hit a note of nostalgia unlike any other. Do you remember playing the OG Mario Kart? How old were you when it came out?
